The Super Eagles of Nigeria and their officials have boycotted training in Rabat, Morocco, over unresolved disputes regarding unpaid allowances and bonuses.
The team was scheduled to train on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon but decided not to take part in the session.
According to BBC journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, the entire squad, including backroom staff, refused to train due to long-standing financial issues with football authorities.
In a joint statement reportedly released by players and officials, the team confirmed the boycott, stating:
“The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today in Morocco because of the unresolved issues with outstanding payments. The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparations for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”
The protest comes just two days before Nigeria face Gabon in the first semi-final of the World Cup Africa Playoff Tournament at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
A win would earn the Super Eagles a place in the final playoff against either Cameroon or DR Congo.
