Selena Gomez, the comedy series ‘The Bear,’ and the drama series ‘Shogun’ shattered records as organizers announced the nominees for the 76th Emmys on Wednesday.
Actress and singer Selena Gomez earned her first-ever acting Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Mabel in ‘Only Murders In The Building.’ Additionally, she became the most Emmy-nominated Latina producer in the Best Comedy Series category for her work as an executive producer on Hulu’s ‘Only Murders In The Building.’ She was previously nominated twice for a group Emmy Award (2022-2023) in the Outstanding Comedy Series category for the same show.
Fan favorite ‘The Bear’ broke the record for the most nominations in a single year in the comedy category, receiving 23 nods. The previous record was held by ‘30 Rock’ with 22 nominations in 2009.
‘Shogun’ led this year’s drama category with an impressive 25 nominations.
Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri earned a nomination for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She will compete with other superstars like Quinta Brunson, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Jean Smart, and Selena Gomez.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez celebrated her 2024 Emmy nominations by sharing a picture on Instagram of herself sitting behind a cake with the inscription, ‘Congratulations Emmy Nominee.’ She wrote: “I’m honored and insanely grateful for this. Thank you @onlymurdershulu for giving me Mabel.”
The 2024 Emmy Awards will be held on September 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
