The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that a blind candidate enlisted another blind individual to impersonate him during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the impersonator, who is also visually impaired, is currently an undergraduate student.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, Oloyede reaffirmed the board’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities who aspire to pursue higher education.
He said, “The Prof. Peter Okebukola-led JAMB Equal Opportunity Group continues to demonstrate outstanding dedication in ensuring that candidates with disabilities can sit for their examinations, regardless of the challenges they face.
“For the 2025 UTME, a total of 501 candidates were successfully examined by the JEOG across 11 centres nationwide. These candidates not only had their registration fees refunded, but also received transportation, accommodation, and feeding support. The results are being released today.
“Unfortunately, one of the candidates was involved in impersonation by recruiting a blind undergraduate to write the exam on behalf of another blind candidate.”
The 2025 UTME results were officially released on Friday.
Prior to the release, JAMB shared performance data on the 1.9 million candidates who sat the exam. The figures revealed that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 — the average benchmark on the 400-point scale.
The UTME tests candidates in four subjects, with Use of English being compulsory. Candidates choose three additional subjects relevant to their chosen field of study.
Responding to the results, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the outcome demonstrates the government’s ongoing efforts to combat examination malpractice.
