Vaasa University of Applied Sciences VAMK had their first alumni event which focused on future working life and the importance of humanity for the career path. The climax of the event was the Alumnus of the year award.
The first Alumni event of VAMK which took place on Wednesday 6 October brought together all those who have studied or worked at VAMK or its predecessors.
Iddrisu who won the 2018 Afrofinns Achievements Award for Academic Achievement was declared the winner of VAMK Alumnus of the Year. “Iddrisu has an enviable track record of diligence and persistency. He is a trailblazer in networking says Obi-West Utchaychukwu, the publisher of Diaspora Reporters.”

He is from Ghana, moved to Vaasa in 2014 to study in the English-language International Business degree program.
VAMK’s Rector and CEO Kati Komulainen said that Iddrisu has made a positive impact wherever he has worked.
– We are proud of your success. You are an example to all students.
Iddrisu has worked at Wärtsilä until the end of September, which was his dream job. Now he is ready for new challenges and at the same time completes his master’s studies at the University of Vaasa.
This is a really great honor for me, Lukumanu Iddrisu says about the award. When I came here seven years ago, I could not have imagined that I would still receive such an award.
Still basking on the euphoria of VAMK Alumnus award, Iddrisu was today awarded Wärtsilä 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫.

Iddrisu, while reacting to the award of excellence said;
“When I arrived in Finland, my dream was to work in a relevant field at Wärtsilä Corporation. After numerous rejections, I never gave up. Fast forward 2021, I was hired as a project purchasing trainee.
Today, I am happy to announce that I have been awarded the 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 in Finland. The first ever Wärtsilä employee to win this.
