Rwandan President Paul Kagame has unveiled a visa-free travel policy for all Africans, positioning Rwanda as the fourth African nation to adopt this approach.
President Kagame, while addressing the development on Thursday, emphasized, “Let there be no mistake about it. Any African can get on a plane to Rwanda whenever they wish and will not pay a thing to enter our country.” This move is strategically aligned with tapping into Africa’s burgeoning tourism market, driven by the continent’s expanding middle class.
Rwanda has been diligently working on elevating its tourism sector by collaborating with prominent football clubs such as Arsenal and Bayern Munich to promote the country as an attractive tourist destination.
With this change, Rwanda joins the ranks of Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin as the exclusive African countries offering visa-free entry for all African citizens. In a similar vein, Kenya’s President William Ruto recently announced plans to abolish visa requirements for all African visitors by 2024.
Moreover, multiple African countries have established bilateral agreements for visa-free travel, with notable examples including Ghana and South Africa, and Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
