Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, admitted he is male during his appearance at the Federal High Court in Lagos State on Friday.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced him to six months in prison without the option of a fine for abusing the naira.
Before the sentencing, the judge asked about his gender, and he responded that he was a man.
When the judge asked, “Are you a man or a woman?” Bobrisky replied, “I am a man.”
Awogboro stated that the ruling would serve as a deterrent to others who abuse and mutilate the naira.
The jail term began on March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.
Bobrisky was convicted on April 5 after pleading guilty to charges of abusing the naira brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The judge postponed sentencing to Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
However, the Federal Government declared the day a public holiday for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Following his conviction, Bobrisky asked the court for leniency, stating he was unaware of the law regarding naira abuse.
He stated he is a social media influencer with over five million followers.
The judge informed him that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
Bobrisky said, “I understand, My Lord. My Lord, I wish you could give me a second chance to use my platform to educate my followers about spraying money.
“I will create a video to inform people about the consequences of spraying money.
“I won’t repeat it, My Lord. I regret my actions, My Lord.”
