Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has addressed the global rise of the afrobeats genre. Speaking during a HipTV panel discussion with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and leaders in Nigeria’s creative industries, Davido highlighted that afrobeats artists are now selling tickets on par with pop and hip-hop stars like Drake.
He emphasized that earnings from an afrobeats single can translate to generational wealth, saying, “Afrobeats artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now one song as an afrobeats artist can change your generation.”
Davido urged young artists to focus on collaborating with each other rather than chasing international features, stressing that “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all.”
