Diaspora Glitz Magazine will for the first time celebrate African men in Finland to mark this year’s International Men’s Day on 19th November 2022.
Recall that in March this year, Diaspora Glitz Magazine celebrated International Women’s Day where awards of excellence were given to 10 African women who have done well for the community. The event was sponsored by Moniheli ry in collaboration with the Diak University of Applied Science.
International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. The theme for 2022 is “Helping Men and Boys.” International Men’s Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.

It is good to note that the contributions and impacts of African men in Finnish society cannot be overemphasized. A committee was set up to help choose the deserving 10 men whose impacts on society will be rewarded. There were chosen from different sectors. This is just the first edition and we look forward to more editions because we have more influential men to celebrate.
Three African ambassadors namely; The ambassadors of Morocco, Namibian and Algeria have already confirmed their participation while two notable MPs from immigrant backgrounds have also indicated their interest in the event.

Activities to mark the event will begin with a football tournament in the morning at Tikkurilan Urhielupuisto from 8:00 am – 13:00, after that, all the players and supporters will converge at the evening gala where the trophy and medals will be delivered to the winner.
There will be keynote speakers who will speak on important topics affecting men and boys. Aside from the panel discussions, the evening will be spiced up with music from BlaqBoy Jr, Ali Saad and his Arabic band and a male fashion show by Remix Gear and the DJ is DJ Dalo. Multi-skilled Evans Andrew will host the show.
