Afrobeats is not safe anymore – Omah Lay.

by Admin

Singer Omah Lay has expressed concerns about the current state of the Afrobeats genre, stating that it is under threat. He lamented that the genre is being diluted to cater to foreign audiences and is becoming overly commercialised.

During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay declared that Afrobeats is no longer in safe hands. He pointed out that the lucrative nature of the genre is leading many artists to prioritise money over passion.

“There’s too much money in Afrobeats. Artists are just chasing the money,” he remarked. “I think people are ruining Afrobeats. It’s becoming very commercial, and I don’t believe it’s in safe hands right now.”

Recently, Afrobeats has faced criticism, with renowned Jamaican reggae artist Buju Banton labelling it as “f*ckery.” In a controversial interview, he argued that Afrobeats lacks substance and will eventually fade away.
