Victor Boniface missed Bayer Leverkusen’s training session on Tuesday due to illness, but the Nigerian striker could return in time for their Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin on Saturday.
According to Bild, Boniface was sidelined because of illness but is expected to be fully fit by the weekend and may be included in Leverkusen’s matchday squad.
A regular starter under manager Xabi Alonso during the first three months of the 2024-2025 season, the Super Eagles forward lost his spot in the starting lineup after picking up a hamstring injury while on international duty in November.
However, after starting Leverkusen’s last two Bundesliga matches, Boniface seems to have worked his way back into Alonso’s plans, following a failed January move to Saudi side Al Nassr.
Despite limited minutes in 2025, the 23-year-old has contributed four goal involvements—three goals and one assist—in ten appearances.
Leverkusen’s 1-0 win over Heidenheim last weekend brought them within six points of league leaders Bayern Munich, with six games left to play.
