Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has been appointed as special adviser to the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
The announcement was made by Motsepe during a live-streamed press conference on YouTube on Saturday, where Pinnick was warmly welcomed back into the leadership of the continent’s football governing body.
“I did not know Amaju is so loved in CAF,” Motsepe said after confirming his appointment.
With this new role, Pinnick will attend all CAF executive meetings in an advisory capacity. The position recognises his long-standing contributions to the growth of football in Africa and marks a continued rise in his football administration profile.
The 54-year-old from Delta State previously served as CAF’s first vice president under former president Ahmad Ahmad from September 2018 to July 2019. Though he recently lost his seat on the FIFA Executive Committee, this appointment marks a significant return to continental football leadership.
Pinnick led the Nigeria Football Federation from 2014 to 2022, securing a second term in 2018. He is also the third Nigerian to serve on the FIFA Council, following in the footsteps of Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu, and currently holds a position on FIFA’s Organising Committee for Competitions.
