A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday in east London, claiming the life of a 14-year-old boy who fell victim to a vicious sword attack perpetrated by a man. Alongside the youth, two police officers and two others were also stabbed in the street assault. Identified as Daniel Anjorin, the teenager’s untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the community.
Authorities swiftly responded, arresting a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder. According to BBC reports, Anjorin was a student at Bancroft’s, the same independent day school attended by Grace O’Malley-Kumar, one of the victims in the recent Nottingham stabbing incident.
Providing details of the harrowing event, the Metropolitan Police revealed that the suspect initiated the violence by ramming his van into a property on Laing Close, resulting in a collision that injured a 33-year-old man. Subsequently, the assailant physically assaulted the victim, inflicting a wound to the neck. Another man, aged 35, sustained lacerations to his arm during an assault in a neighboring residence. Though severe, the injuries sustained by both victims are thankfully not considered life-threatening.
Tragically, the suspect’s violent spree culminated in the fatal attack on Anjorin. Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell of the Metropolitan Police expressed profound sadness over the loss, stating, “It’s with great sadness that one of those injured in this incident… has died from their injuries.” He added, “He was taken to hospital after being stabbed and sadly died a short while after.”
In response to the tragedy, King Charles III, through Buckingham Palace, conveyed his shock and extended condolences to the affected families, particularly expressing sympathy for the grieving family of the young victim. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also condemned the violence, emphasizing that such acts have no place on the streets.
Reflecting on the profound impact of the incident, Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley expressed heartfelt sympathy for the bereaved parents, acknowledging the unimaginable pain of losing a child. Meanwhile, Holy Family Catholic School, where the teenager’s mother is employed, shared a poignant message, urging prayers and support for the grieving family.
