The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
According to the government, the initiative aims to generate funding to revitalise and develop the state’s sports sector.
The state also reaffirmed its commitment to completing the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the upgraded facility will meet Olympic standards once finished.
As reported by The Guardian Nigeria, the Deputy Governor of Osun State and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, confirmed Davido’s appointment, noting that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is focused on transforming the stadium into a world-class sports arena capable of hosting both national and international events.
He said, “The renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is ongoing and will be completed in the shortest possible time.
“I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages for the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. We are also introducing a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate to accept the role. His involvement is expected to attract substantial support and resources that will greatly enhance sports development in Osun State.”
