Vivian Wilson, the 20-year-old transgender daughter of Elon Musk, has announced plans to leave the United States following Donald Trump’s recent election victory.
Wilson shared her decision on Threads, expressing her discomfort with the political climate under Trump’s return to office. She wrote, “I don’t see my future in the United States. I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me. Even if he’s only in office for four years, even if anti-trans regulations don’t materialize, the people who voted for this aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.”
Born Xavier Musk in 2004, Vivian legally changed her name and gender in April 2022, severing ties with her father by adopting her mother’s maiden name, Wilson. She stated in court filings, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
Elon Musk, who has been outspoken in his support of Trump, has had a strained relationship with Vivian. He has publicly criticized her views, calling her a “communist” and accusing her of believing wealth is inherently evil. Musk also claimed he was misled into agreeing to her use of puberty blockers, stating, “I didn’t fully understand what was happening at the time; it was during COVID, and I was told Xavier might commit suicide.”
Musk has expressed strong opinions on gender issues, referring to puberty blockers as “sterilisation drugs” and criticizing gender dysphoria as “incredibly evil.” He has also made controversial statements about the impact of what he calls the “woke mind virus.”
In response, Vivian stated that her father was largely absent from her childhood and often criticized her femininity and queerness. “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there. I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness. I’ve been reduced to a stereotype. I think that says a lot about how he views queer people and children in general,” she said.
