Former Premier League referee Coote charged over indecent child image

by Admin

Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged with making an indecent image of a child.

The 43-year-old was dismissed from his officiating duties in December after a video surfaced showing him making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp in 2020.

According to the charge, making an indecent image of a child can involve downloading, sharing, or storing abusive photos or videos.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that the allegation stems from a video recovered by officers in February. Coote, who was charged on 12 August, is currently on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

In addition, UEFA banned Coote from officiating until June 2026 after another video appeared, allegedly showing him snorting a white powder through a banknote while in Germany for Euro 2024.

Earlier in January, Coote publicly came out as gay, admitting that the struggle to conceal his sexuality had influenced a number of poor decisions.
