Chelsea forward Noni Madueke has described his partnership with Cole Palmer as ‘cold and fire’ following their impressive performance against Wolves at Molineux. Madueke netted his first senior hat-trick as Chelsea secured a 6-2 victory on Sunday, with all three goals coming in a 14-minute second-half surge.
Palmer assisted all three of Madueke’s goals and marked his recent accolade as the 2023/24 PFA Young Player of the Year with an exceptional display. Madueke was thrilled to take home the match ball, celebrating as Enzo Maresca earned his first Premier League win as head coach.
“Today means a lot. I was really just trying to be clever and wait for the right moment,” Madueke told Premier League Productions. “The system allows us to probe and keep possession higher up the pitch. The first half was more end-to-end, but we gained control in the second half.
“The first goal was a bit lucky, but the second one was all Cole Palmer—two brilliant passes that allowed me to step onto the ball and score. I’m thrilled with the hat-trick, but even happier that we won the game.”
Madueke and Palmer, who have previously played together for England U-21s, demonstrated a strong understanding against Wolves. Palmer, known for his composure and ‘cold’ celebrations, complements Madueke’s ‘fire,’ as Madueke explained, “It’s unbelievable. He is cold and I am fire, so it mixes well. He always plays the right pass, and I like to get the ball in space, beat defenders, and make things happen.”
Regarding Maresca’s first league win, Madueke added, “It’s clear what he’s about. We saw what he did at Leicester last year—he’s meticulous with the details. Even in the first game against City, we showed good patterns of play but couldn’t finish. Today was a great day; I’m happy he got his first Premier League win with Chelsea, and we look forward to midweek in Geneva.”
