Following his defeat to Jake Paul, 58-year-old boxing legend Mike Tyson made it clear he has no immediate plans to retire.
Tyson expressed admiration for Paul, who outlasted him until the final round and secured a unanimous decision victory. “I’m really happy. He was a good fighter and well-prepared,” Tyson remarked. “I didn’t prove anything to anyone—just to myself.”
When questioned about the knee brace he wore during the fight, Tyson dismissed it as a factor, stating, “I can’t use that as an excuse or I wouldn’t have been in there.” Asked if this marked the end of his career, Tyson firmly responded, “I don’t think so.”
The bout, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, saw YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul dominate the ageing heavyweight icon. Tyson struggled throughout the eight-round contest, with Paul securing victory by wide margins on all three scorecards — 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
Paul’s superior speed and agility left Tyson struggling to keep up. The 27-year-old landed a flurry of punches in the third round, putting Tyson in trouble, though the promised knockout blow failed to materialise. Despite his best efforts, Tyson looked every bit of his 58 years, connecting with only 18 of 97 punches compared to Paul’s 78 out of 278.
While Tyson’s controversial return to the ring ended in a one-sided defeat, his determination suggests he’s not ready to hang up his gloves just yet.
