The Oyo State Police Command has reported that at least 35 minors lost their lives in the tragic Ibadan stampede.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, SP Osifeso Adewale, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, adding that six minors who sustained severe injuries during the incident are currently in critical condition.

“So far, 35 minors have been documented dead, while six others are critically injured and receiving various medical interventions,” he stated.

The stampede occurred during a funfair organised by the former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, Prophetess Naomi Shikemi, at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.

The Oyo State Police Command also revealed that eight individuals linked to the event’s organisation have been arrested.

Among those arrested are Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the main event sponsor, as well as Fasasi Abdulahi, the school principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, and others, including Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin.
