Celtic have officially announced the signing of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer, just a day after his contract with Sevilla was terminated.
The 28-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Scottish champions, who also hold the option to extend his stay for a further year. His move sees him reunited with Brendan Rodgers, under whom he enjoyed his most prolific spell at Leicester City — scoring 19 goals across all competitions in their 2020/21 FA Cup-winning campaign.
“Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho on a one-year deal, subject to international clearance, with the club having the option of a further year,” read a statement from the club on Tuesday evening.
Iheanacho’s arrival comes after frustration from fans over the lack of a striker signing before the transfer deadline.
The forward began his senior career at Manchester City, winning the League Cup in 2016, before racking up over 200 appearances for Leicester, where he lifted the FA Cup in 2021. He later joined Sevilla in 2024 and ended last season on loan at Middlesbrough.
On the international stage, Iheanacho has made 58 appearances for Nigeria and was part of the Super Eagles squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
