Social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has publicly apologized to the Nigeria Police Force for wearing a police uniform in one of his recent videos.
The police had condemned his unauthorized use of the uniform and launched an investigation.
In the controversial video, VeryDarkMan appeared in a police uniform, introducing himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division.
Following public backlash, the social media critic released a video on Thursday, expressing regret for wearing attire resembling the official police uniform.
He also advised Nigerians to obtain proper authorization before wearing police attire to avoid misunderstandings or legal consequences.
“Just back from the police station, where I was questioned about the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim resembles theirs.
“I had no intention of impersonating the police, and I offer my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.
“I also want to remind the public to seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before wearing anything that could resemble their uniform.
“You might intend to use it positively, but others may misuse it. So, it’s best to obtain full approval before using anything that might be seen as impersonation,” he stated.
