Immigration raises concern over the growing number of irregular migrants entering Nigeria.

The Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Edo State, Martins Moye, has raised concerns about the increasing number of irregular migrants entering Nigeria.

He made the remarks at the 2024 NIS enlightenment campaign against irregular migration in Benin City, Edo State.

The event, themed “Say No to Migrant Smuggling. If You Must Migrate, Migrate Safely, Orderly, and Regularly,” highlighted the growing urgency of addressing the issue.

Moye stressed the importance of the campaign in light of the rising numbers of irregular migrants.

Assistant Controller of Immigration, David Amanahu, a facilitator from the NIS headquarters in Abuja, also conveyed a message from the Controller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap.

Amanahu emphasized that “The Controller-General’s message is clear: the NIS is now more focused than ever on border management and migration issues.”

Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Woshak Danladi, another facilitator, spoke on the severe risks associated with irregular migration.

“Irregular migration can cost you your freedom, and in some cases, even your life. There’s a risk of organ harvesting, human rights abuses, and many other dangers,” he warned, urging officers to educate the public on these threats.
