Iran is reportedly preparing for a potential escalation with the United States, with claims that more than one million troops have been mobilised in anticipation of a possible ground invasion.
Officials linked to Iran say the buildup includes not only organised military units but also a surge of young volunteers signing up to defend the country. According to the state-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, large numbers of recruits are joining the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Basij militia, and the regular army, known as Artesh.
The developments come amid reports that Donald Trump is considering a tougher approach, believing a ground operation could pressure Tehran into accepting a proposed 15-point peace plan. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is said to be reviewing the option of deploying an additional 10,000 troops, according to reports.
Iranian sources have issued strong warnings, suggesting that any U.S. ground incursion would be met with fierce resistance. They also signalled readiness to escalate tensions around the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.
Despite rising tensions, Trump has reportedly delayed plans for direct military strikes, opting instead to pursue a negotiated resolution. An earlier 48-hour ultimatum demanding that Tehran reopen the strait was postponed, with a new deadline now set for April 6.
The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides signalling preparedness while leaving the door open for last-minute diplomacy.
