The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to officially unveil Mr Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles today.
The unveiling ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, according to a statement published on the NFF website on Sunday.
Chelle’s appointment, approved last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee based on a recommendation from its Technical and Development Committee, sees the 47-year-old Franco-Malian step into one of the most high-pressure coaching roles in world football.
NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has expressed confidence in Chelle’s ability to elevate the Super Eagles. “We understand Nigerians’ passion for football, which has led to varying reactions about his appointment. However, we appeal to everyone to unite in support of Coach Chelle, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success,” Gusau said on Sunday.
He also assured that the NFF would provide all the necessary support for Chelle to succeed.
Chelle’s first major assignment will be to lead the Super Eagles B team at the African Nations Championship in East Africa next month. Following that, he will guide the team through critical 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.
Today’s ceremony will also reveal Chelle’s coaching staff, who will play a vital role in preparing for the remaining six matches of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Chelle, who recently managed Algerian club MC Oran, brings extensive experience to the role, including guiding Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles forward Victor Ikpeba has voiced his support for Chelle, calling on Nigerians to rally behind the new coach as he takes on this challenging role.
