Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year.
The 32-year-old Egyptian forward secured over 90% of the votes from the FWA’s 900 members. His Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk finished second, followed by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in third and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice in fourth.
Salah has enjoyed another outstanding season, scoring 28 Premier League goals and providing 18 assists in 35 appearances. His contributions played a crucial role in helping manager Arne Slot guide Liverpool to their 20th English top-flight title—bringing them level with Manchester United for the most in history.
This marks the third time Salah has won the prestigious award, equaling the record held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. The honour comes on the back of his instrumental role in Liverpool’s successful title campaign.
Van Dijk was Salah’s closest competitor in the voting, while Isak’s 26 goals across all competitions—including one in the final against Liverpool—helped Newcastle end a 56-year trophy drought. Rice was recognised for his standout displays in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Fifteen other players also received votes, including Bruno Fernandes, Chris Wood, Alexis Mac Allister, Morgan Gibbs-White, Ryan Gravenberch, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jacob Murphy, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Murillo, and Dominik Szoboszlai.
