Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been handed a three-match ban and a £6,000 ($7,734) fine after grabbing the nose of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk during the Istanbul derby, the Turkish Football Federation confirmed on Saturday.
The incident took place at the end of Wednesday’s Turkish Cup quarter-final, in which Mourinho’s team lost 2-1 at home.
A scuffle broke out between both teams, leading to three players being sent off, two from Galatasaray. After the final whistle, the 62-year-old Portuguese manager appeared to pinch Buruk’s nose, causing the Galatasaray coach to fall dramatically to the ground.
“Mourinho shall be banned from entering the dressing room and the bench for three official matches,” the TFF stated. Mourinho will miss the upcoming matches against Trabzonspor, Sivasspor, and Kayserispor.
Fenerbahce currently sit second in the Super Lig, six points behind leaders Galatasaray, with a game in hand.
