Nigerian singer Omah Lay has alleged that a fellow artist he confided in about his upcoming album stole the concept to create their own album.
He explained that he had shared the idea with this unnamed colleague because they had planned to collaborate. However, the artist ended up releasing an album using the same idea that Omah Lay had shared.
Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay revealed that the incident forced him to re-record his entire album.
“My song ‘Holy Ghost’ introduces a new sound. I was initially planning to shape the entire album around this new sound, but I changed my mind,” he said.
“I shared the idea with a particular artist, and that artist went ahead and released an album with my idea, which made me re-record my album.
“He approached me, and I agreed to collaborate because he’s an artist I admire. I told him the direction I was taking with my sound. Five months later, he released an album that exactly mirrored the sound I had shared with him.”
