Despite ongoing efforts to uncover the true circumstances surrounding the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, many questions remain unanswered, leaving fans and loved ones in a state of unresolved grief.
On September 12, 2024, while his family quietly marked the first anniversary of his death, the mystery surrounding his passing loomed larger. The singer, who passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, has yet to receive a definitive explanation for what led to his demise. Speculations have circulated, but no concrete account has been established.
Autopsy Results in Question
After Mohbad’s burial, his body was exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, but the results have not provided any clarity. The autopsy, conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, was ultimately inconclusive due to the decomposition of the body, as revealed by pathologist Sunday Osiyemi in May 2024. This uncertainty sparked outrage among fans and the family, who demanded an independent post-mortem and toxicology test.
Further complicating matters, the Lagos State government claimed a toxicology test had been conducted at a lab in the United States. However, an investigation later revealed that the lab denied any involvement in testing related to Mohbad’s case. Currently, a second round of testing is being conducted in Europe, as ordered by the court.
Questions of Paternity
After Mohbad’s death, his father, Joseph Aloba, expressed doubts about the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam. He noted that issues between Mohbad and his wife, Wunmi, were common, including discussions about a DNA test that Wunmi had refused to undertake. Aloba also raised concerns about certain physical characteristics of Liam that he felt did not match their family’s traits. Wunmi, in turn, insisted on a court order before agreeing to any DNA test. A court later directed both parties to seek alternative resolution, though this failed to bring about an agreement.
Ongoing Investigations
Investigations into Mohbad’s death have been marred by numerous setbacks. A special team was formed in September 2023 by the Lagos State Police, and a coroner’s inquest was launched. While some progress has been made, including the arrest of Mohbad’s former label boss, Naira Marley, and his associate Sam Larry, for alleged involvement in the singer’s harassment, their eventual bail and failure to appear in court have stalled the case. Efforts to summon witnesses have so far been unsuccessful, with Mohbad’s family’s legal team pushing for stronger legal action to ensure their attendance.
