US President Donald Trump has reportedly informed his Cabinet and inner circle that Elon Musk is stepping back from his government role.
Musk, who has been serving as an adviser and a “special government employee” in Trump’s administration, recently stated in a Fox News interview with Bret Baier that he expects to complete DOGE’s mission of cutting $1 trillion in federal spending within the 130-day timeframe permitted under federal law.
According to Politico, the Tesla and SpaceX founder will soon return to the business world. Musk was initially scheduled to step down in May, but he is now leaving earlier than expected amid growing controversies.
Reports indicate that the decision was mutual, with Trump expressing satisfaction with Musk’s work at the Department of Government Efficiency.
Musk has become a polarizing figure due to his aggressive cost-cutting measures in the federal government. Meanwhile, Tesla’s stock has seen a sharp decline, with sales dropping and vehicles reportedly being set on fire. Additionally, Musk recently spent $20 million on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race, only for his preferred Republican candidate to lose.
