British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin would breach a peace deal with Ukraine if it is not properly defended.
Speaking after attending a meeting of senior military leaders in London on Thursday night, March 20, Starmer stressed that any agreement to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine would only be lasting if strong security arrangements were in place.
At the Permanent Joint Headquarters in Northwood, London, more than 20 countries gathered for a closed meeting to discuss proposals for deploying troops in Ukraine to help secure the country as part of any peace agreement with Russia.
“It is vitally important we do that work because we know one thing for certain: a deal without anything behind it is something that Putin will breach.
“We know that because it happened before. I am absolutely clear in my mind it will happen again,” Starmer said.
