Shops shut down as residents hurry home amid the enforcement of the state of emergency in Rivers.

by Admin

Tension grips Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency, as shop owners hurriedly close for the day and rush home to their families.

Motorists and residents were also seen making their way home quickly as news of the emergency spread across the state.

At about 9 p.m., our reporter observed several vehicles with full headlights stationed outside the main gate of the government house along Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt. It remained unclear whether the governor was about to leave or the purpose of the vehicles’ presence.

On various streets, residents gathered near their homes, discussing the situation and speculating on what might come next. Some expressed disappointment over the development, blaming political actors for the crisis.

Unlike normal circumstances, the usually busy roads were nearly empty, with transporters scarcely visible. The few residents still outside were seen hurrying home, fearing the unknown.

A resident, IB, told our correspondent, “This is not good for the state because it will affect social and economic activities. This is what politicians have caused for us. Now they too can rest.”
