The rap feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake stands out as one of the most notable and extensively debated conflicts in recent hip-hop history. Spanning several weeks, these two iconic emcees engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of verbal blows, with each delivering scathing allegations against the other in their diss tracks.
While opinions remain divided on the victor of this rap beef, and whether it has truly concluded, there’s no denying the firestorm it ignited across social media platforms. Fellow rappers and entertainers couldn’t resist sharing their perspectives on the feud, contributing to its widespread discourse.
Adding his voice to the discussion is none other than West Coast legend Snoop Dogg. In a recent interview with ET, the iconic “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper made it clear that he wouldn’t be taking sides. However, he expressed gratitude to both Kendrick and Drake for the positive impact their feud had on the rap industry.
Snoop, aged 52, stated, “Well, the only thing I want to say about that whole scenario is that I want to give both of them a shout-out for raising the bar as far as lyrics, as far as song-making and writing because the writing has been upped since the confrontation or whatever you call it, whatever they went through. Those are my nephews. I’m not in the middle of it. I support both of them and that’s personal business, not my business.”
Further elaborating on the matter, Snoop emphasized the influence of Kendrick and Drake on the rap game, remarking, “As far as what they did for the industry and the rap game, they made you rap again. You can’t mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So, thank y’all.”
Earlier in the feud, Snoop found himself inadvertently drawn into the conversation after Drake incorporated A.I. vocals of Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur in his “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss track aimed at Kendrick. This prompted Snoop to take to Instagram, expressing his surprise and seeking clarification on the situation.
In an Instagram video shared in April, he quizzically remarked, “They did what? When? How? Are you sure? Y’all have a good night and to all … Why everybody calling my phone, blowing me up? What the f—? What happened? What’s going on? I’m going back to bed. Good night.”
