Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has emphasised the urgent need for visionary leadership to propel Nigeria forward.
Speaking during an interview with Elevate Africa on YouTube on Thursday, the globally acclaimed artist stated, “We can’t go forward without… we need the best leaders now first, that’s the most important thing.” He highlighted how competent governance is essential for the nation’s progress.
Davido also commended the resilience and adaptability of Nigerians, attributes he believes have enabled them to thrive despite challenges. Reflecting on the country’s struggles, he noted that a lack of effective leadership remains a significant obstacle to its growth.
In response to a question about Africa’s potential and the role of music in driving change, Davido praised Nigerians’ strength and determination. “I tell people, if you can survive in Lagos or Nigeria, you can survive anywhere. We’re survivors; we’re strong-willed people,” he said.
He further pointed to the widespread presence of Nigerians around the globe as proof of their resilience and influence. “Anywhere you go in the world, everyone has Nigerian friends. Whether they’re Chinese or… Nigerian communities are everywhere. It shows we’re a force,” he added.
While celebrating these global achievements, Davido reiterated that Nigeria’s path to global leadership depends on finding capable leaders.
“The only thing missing is the right leaders to lead us. Once we get that right, nothing can stop us,” he concluded.
