Pete Hegseth confirmed as Trump’s defense secretary even after 50 Democrat senators opposed him over sexual assault allegations.

Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News commentator, has been confirmed as Secretary of Defense in President Donald Trump’s administration.

The Senate vote was evenly split, with 50 Republicans supporting and 50 Democrats opposing. Vice President JD Vance cast the tie-breaking vote.

Hegseth’s nomination faced controversy, including sexual assault allegations, workplace misconduct, and criticism over his opposition to women in combat roles and diversity policies.

During his confirmation hearing, Hegseth dismissed allegations as “anonymous smears” and avoided questions about his conduct and adherence to constitutional orders.
