Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has teased a return to the ring and a possible clash with Anthony Joshua after posting a short video on social media with a cryptic message.
The 36-year-old ‘Gypsy King’ shared a 12-second clip from the gym, where he’s seen training once again with his American coach, SugarHill Steward. In the video, Fury says, “Just in the gym. Bumped into someone you might know,” before turning the camera to show Steward, who grins and says, “You know what time it is.” Fury then adds, “You know what’s coming.”
Fury had announced his retirement from boxing in January after suffering a second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December. However, given his history of brief retirements, many within the boxing world remain unconvinced.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn previously cast doubt on the legitimacy of Fury’s retirement, speculating that it might be part of a strategy to boost the value of a potential blockbuster fight with Joshua.
Anthony Joshua, who was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in the fifth round last September, has also resumed training after undergoing surgery. He recently completed his rehabilitation in Nigeria and expressed gratitude in an Instagram post, thanking the country for its “energy, generosity and kindness.”
A September date has long been speculated for the Fury-Joshua bout, with Saudi boxing authority Turki Alalshikh reportedly eager to bring the fight to fruition. The much-anticipated showdown could generate over £170 million from broadcasting rights, ticket sales, sponsorships, and merchandise.
According to Hearn, the 35-year-old Joshua may be nearing the end of his boxing career. “This is the final year. Let’s not beat around the bush,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “He’s going to have somewhere between – it could always be your last fight – but one and three fights, that’s the reality of the situation.”
