The United States government has delivered critical military supplies to the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s counterterrorism and security operations.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed the development in a statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, January 13, noting that the supplies were officially handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated, tagging the United States Mission in Nigeria.
According to the command, the delivery highlights the U.S. government’s continued commitment to reinforcing its security partnership with Nigeria.
The assistance comes amid renewed cooperation between Nigeria and its international allies to tackle persistent insecurity, particularly terrorism and violent extremism in the North East and North West regions. In November 2025, the Tinubu administration appealed to the U.S. government for military support to help combat terrorism in several states, a request confirmed by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga following the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Subsequently, a joint airstrike was carried out on December 25, 2025, in coordination with Nigerian authorities, reportedly targeting terrorist strongholds in the North West.
