Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist Fola David has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the largest drawing by an individual.
The Lagos-based visual artist, aiming to depict Nigeria’s diverse cultures, began his six-day attempt on July 16 at Onikan Stadium with a goal to cover 1,000 square meters of canvas.
On Friday night, David announced in a trending social media post: “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record of 629.98 square meters, but we are not done! Our goal is to cover over 1,000 square meters of canvas with drawings; we are currently at 689 square meters. Let’s Go!”
Notable Nigerians who have visited David include Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party; former GWR holder Hilda Baci; and businessman Farooq Oreagba, who gained attention at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival.
The management of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), also visited David, an alumnus of the college, to show their support.
