A 24-year-old Ugandan national, Tom Ssekamwa, has been arrested in Masvingo, Zimbabwe, after being caught with s€x toys and assorted items.

Ssekamwa appeared in the Masvingo Magistrates Court following his arrest, facing charges of contravening the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act or criminal nuisance.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) received an anonymous tip-off on Thursday, August 1, 2024, leading to the arrest. According to the NPA, the tip-off indicated that Ssekamwa had s€x toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo.

“It is the State’s case that on August 1, 2024, the police received a tip-off that the accused person was in possession of s€x toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo. The police acted on the tip-off, proceeded to the said place, and conducted a search, which allegedly led to the discovery of s€x toys and a lubricant for men from the accused person’s bag. The accused person was arrested,” the NPA stated.

Ssekamwa appeared before the Masvingo Magistrates Court today, August 6, for his bail ruling. Under Zimbabwe’s censorship and entertainment control law, possessing or selling adult toys is illegal. In 2022, a popular social media character also faced legal trouble for blatantly peddling and dealing with adult toys.
