California experienced an earthquake on Friday, Jan. 10, as the state battled deadly wildfires.

A 3.7 magnitude quake struck near the San Francisco Bay area at 7:02 am PT.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 8.4 kilometers, about three miles east of the San Francisco Zoo.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries at this time.

The seismic event took place around 350 miles away from Los Angeles, where wildfires have claimed at least 10 lives and displaced 180,000 residents.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie addressed the situation, calling it an unfortunate start to the day.

“I promised to make the safety of San Franciscans my first priority as mayor, and I am keeping that promise today with this morning’s earthquake,” Lurie said. “I ordered city government into action immediately, and our first responders have been out across the city ensuring the safety of our residents.”

For several days, wildfires have been ravaging Los Angeles County, destroying 10,000 homes and structures and causing significant loss.
