Nigerian football icon Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha still believes the Super Eagles can qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — but only if they step up and take control of their destiny.
Although Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign has been shaky so far, Okocha says there’s still a way through — but it’ll require near-perfect execution from here on out.
The Super Eagles offered a glimmer of hope with a victory over Zimbabwe, yet they currently sit fourth in their group, six points behind leaders South Africa.
“If we want to give ourselves any chance of qualifying, we have to be thinking of winning all our remaining matches,” Okocha told iDiski Times. “Bafana Bafana are top of the group — it will be a tough game, but I believe we can go there and win. If we want to qualify, those are the games we need to win.”
Despite the odds, Okocha — who represented Nigeria in three World Cups — hasn’t given up on the team.
