In Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, a 40-year-old man, Joshua Nwafor, has allegedly killed his wife, Charity, over a disagreement about a tuber of yam in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area. The tragic incident occurred in their home, where the couple had lived peacefully for 17 years. Joshua, from Nsokkara, and Charity, originally from Awkuzu in Onicha Local Government Area, shared children together.
According to an eyewitness, the conflict started when Joshua planned to cook yam for the family, but Charity insisted on having roasted yam instead and proceeded to roast it. The disagreement escalated when Joshua became enraged, dragged Charity into a room, locked the door, and beat her until she died.
The eyewitness, advocating for peaceful conflict resolution, emphasized that when a marriage becomes life-threatening, it’s crucial to leave, regardless of societal pressures.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the incident and assured that a thorough investigation would be carried out, with the suspect facing charges in court.
