Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou intends to undergo additional medical checkups after enduring a brutal knockout by Anthony Joshua on March 9. Despite concerns, two-time heavyweight champion Joshua showcased an impressive performance, dominating the bout and ultimately securing a knockout victory over Ngannou.
Throughout the match, Joshua demonstrated control, flooring Ngannou in both the first and early second rounds. Despite efforts to regain composure, Ngannou remained dazed, prompting immediate medical attention after collapsing to the canvas from Joshua’s explosive right hand.
Following the fight, Ngannou expressed his need for further medical evaluation despite feeling relatively okay immediately after the bout. Reflecting on the match, he stated, “I feel healthy but for the longevity of the sport… we better check and find out if there’s anything that could be done to get better now… I still need more checkups.”
As Ngannou plans his recovery, Joshua looks ahead to potential summer matches against contenders like Deontay Wilder, Joseph Parker, or Zhilei Zhang, aiming for a title fight following the undisputed heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
