Nigerian Music Industry Shut Down When I Took a Break From Social Media – Davido

by Admin

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said the Nigerian music industry felt his absence when he stepped away from social media in November 2022 after the tragic passing of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

He shared that during his three-month break, both supporters and critics were urging him to return.

In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Davido said, “I knew that people love me because when I was not active online, the whole [Nigerian music] industry was shut down. I was seeing tweets like, ‘We do love him’, ‘It’s so quiet out here’, ‘Davido come back.’ Even the fans who hate me were like, ‘Please, come back, we need to bash you’.”

Davido took a social media break in November 2022 following the loss of his son in a drowning accident at his Lagos residence. He made his return online in March 2023 to announce his fourth studio album, Timeless, which was met with widespread excitement.
