A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay N150,000 to her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, for failing to honour her promise to visit him.
The dispute began when Rhoda, who requested N3,000 for transportation, agreed to visit Sola. However, she did not show up on the agreed date, leaving Sola waiting and causing him significant emotional distress.
Frustrated by her actions, Sola reported the matter to the police after Rhoda switched off her phone and failed to arrive as promised. Despite receiving the N3,000 transport fare, Rhoda did not fulfill her commitment.
The case was reported to the Ayeso Police Station, which led to Rhoda’s arrest and a charge in the Magistrate Court.
During the trial, Sola presented evidence, including mobile money transfer receipts and WhatsApp messages, to support his claims.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Rhoda must repay the N3,000 transport fare, along with an additional N100,000 for breach of agreement and N50,000 for the emotional distress caused by her failure to show up.
The court emphasized that the judgment serves as a warning against similar actions in the future.
