Helsinki African Cup, the annual summer football tournament for the African diaspora in the capital area began on Saturday, July 23 at the Töölö Ball Stadium in Helsinki. The final of the tournament will be on Sunday, July 31.
According to the organiser, Sabasy Ndiaye, The event is intended for all spectators and especially for our children, who get to play their own game during the tournament. The teams participating in the football tournament represent different African countries.
This year the participants are Nigeria, Senegal, Congo, Cameroon, Morocco, Liberia, Algeria and Tunisia. The tournament is spiced up with good music from the African continent.
You can follow the match update from the newly developed app which entails the participating teams, fixtures and scores.
Team Sierra Leone that won the tournament last year are not participating. Senegal, Nigeria and Tunisia are the favourites to win the tournament which will be featured in our next magazine.
I am interested about having a freindly game with the finalists of the 2022 Helsinki African Cup, that is Nigeria and Algeria.
My team, Flamingo United FC is a new team in Lahti and we are looking to test the waters and keep developing by playing top quality teams and we believe the Helsinki African cup finalists can match what we are looking for.
I have however been able to be in touch with the Nigerian team and we have scheduled a freindly game here in Lahti on 10.9. Could you help get contact information of the Algerian team? A phone number or WhatsApp number of the coach or team manager will do. Thanks!
