Breaking: Fatim Diarra elected Chairman Helsinki City Council

Helsinki City Councillor Fatim Diarra has been elected Chair of the Helsinki City Council by the Greens.  Diarra who raked a whopping 3857 votes (candidate with the second highest votes for the Greens in Helsinki) in the 2021 municipal elections to retain her position in the City Council took to her social media platforms to announce the elevated position.

Elated Fatim remembered his late father who is from Mali, who loved Helsinki and made the City his home. His father was a psychiatrist before his demise.

She wrote

“The world will not change unless we change it ourselves. I am grateful, humble and moved. At the same time, I can’t help but think of what my father would say if he were still alive. My father made Helsinki his home and also taught us his children to love this city.”

She stated that in her new role, she’ll get to be on the side of Helsinki and the people of Helsinki. Helsinki has always moved and our city is international in nature. Helsinki is a liberal city, but we still have the dune to make sure that Helsinki is a safe home for everyone. Pride tickets are now flying in the flagpole of Helsinki City Hall, that’s right. I am proud of Helsinki, I am proud of us, she said.

Her new role in Helsinki is an indication that there is a future for people of African descent in the political landscape of Finland. Two days ago, Somali-born Suldaan Said Ahmed made it to the Parliament 

According to her, it is important to get to know all the new commissioners and the mayor so that together they can ensure that the Helsinki City Council Hall remains a place of respect.

As chairman of the city council, she wants to ensure that the Helsinki City Council remains a place of respect. Significantly shaping the reality in which we live through our language. ”

“As politicians in the Finnish capital, we have a special responsibility to conduct the debate with respect.” she remarked.
