Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come down with a bout of food poisoning and has been instructed by his doctors to work from home for the next three days.
According to a statement from his office, the 75-year-old leader is recovering at home after being diagnosed with intestinal inflammation caused by spoiled food. As a result, Netanyahu’s upcoming court appearances in his ongoing corruption trial have been delayed, with no hearings expected until after the court’s summer recess ends in September.
Netanyahu skipped a cabinet meeting on Saturday and was later examined overnight by Professor Alon Hershko at Hadassah-Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem. He is currently receiving intravenous fluids for dehydration.
“In accordance with his doctors’ instructions, the Prime Minister will rest at home for the next three days and will conduct state affairs from there,” the statement read. His condition is currently described as “good.”
Netanyahu had been scheduled to testify in court on Monday and Tuesday, but his lawyer, Amit Hadad, requested a postponement due to his health. The Jerusalem District Court accepted the request after reviewing his medical records.
The State Attorney’s Office acknowledged the situation, stating, “Under the circumstances, and considering what is written in the medical record, we cannot object. However, in light of the many hearings that have been canceled recently, we will request that the defendant testify on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.”
Despite this, the court announced it would cancel—not reschedule—the upcoming hearings due to logistical constraints, meaning Netanyahu will not return to court until at least September 5, when the judicial summer recess concludes.
