Scottish manager David Moyes has returned as Everton’s manager following the sacking of Sean Dyche, the Premier League club announced on Saturday.
“David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for over 500 matches between 2002 and 2013,” the club said in a statement on its website.
Dyche was dismissed on Thursday after a poor run of results, with just one win in their last 11 games, leaving Everton one point above the relegation zone.
The club also announced that former player Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman will oversee Thursday’s FA Cup match against Peterborough.
Everton, currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, suffered their eighth league defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday. The team has struggled offensively, failing to score in eight of their last 10 games and failing to register a single shot on target in the recent defeat.
Dyche, who was appointed in January 2023, managed to keep Everton in the top flight last season, even after the club was docked eight points for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. He also secured their survival with a final-day victory over Bournemouth.
