Boniface dismisses talk of Leverkusen departure

by Admin

Despite recent speculation surrounding his future at both club and international levels, Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has put all doubts to rest by reaffirming his commitment to German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Speaking to German outlet Sport Bild, the 24-year-old dismissed rumours of a potential move, stating clearly that he intends to stay at the club. His comments come amid reports linking him with a switch to AC Milan, with Italian transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri revealing that initial contact had already been made between the Serie A club and Boniface’s camp.

“Nigerian striker has opened the door to a permanent move to the Rossoneri as talks with Boniface’s side have already taken place,” Tavolieri wrote on X.

Earlier in January, Boniface was reportedly close to a €60 million move to Saudi club Al Nassr, but the transfer fell through. His current market value is now estimated at €30–40 million, according to Gazzetta, making any potential deal more feasible.

However, Boniface appears focused on his journey with Leverkusen as he heads into his third season—now under new manager Erik Ten Hag following Xabi Alonso’s exit.

“Absolutely,” Boniface said when asked if he would remain at the club. “My future is here. From my perspective, it’s 100 per cent clear that I’m staying. I still have three years left on my contract. I want to win titles with Bayer and have a great season.

“Even when things weren’t going so well for me last season, I spoke to sporting director Simon Rolfes and told him that I love it here. The January transfer to Al Nassr didn’t work out. It is what it is. I’m here.”

Boniface joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported €20.5 million. His agent, Aneke Atta, echoed the striker’s commitment, revealing that no conversations have been held with other clubs.

“Victor has ended the season after his trip to the national team. He is now on holiday, will also train hard on holiday and then come back to prepare for the season. There is a new coach and a new constellation, but still a very good team that plays in the Champions League again,” Atta said in June.

“Victor and I have never talked about a change. We have not spoken with any other association. At the moment, there are no thoughts of leaving Leverkusen. Of course, you never know in football, but Victor loves playing for Leverkusen.”

Boniface has already returned to training ahead of the 2025/26 season, fully committed to pushing for more success with the German champions.
