My take on Turku being a diverse city – Paco Diop

by Admin

Turku based civil rights activist and politiciy, Paco Mamadou Diop has stated his views on Turku being a diverse city. The 36-year-old Senegalese who moved to Finland about 14 years ago to study French at the University of Turku also has a vast knowledge of minor subject’s political history, as well as Finnish language and culture for immigrants.

He took to his Facebook page yesterday to answer the question

The Right To Practice Your Religion Freely”

Question:

Do you think Turku is a diverse city enough?

My answer:

We are on the right track.

Turku is already diverse, but not everyone accepts it and there is still work to be done in terms of attitudes. Then, in my eyes, the city can be called a city of true diversity, when, for example, the invitation of Muslims to pray can be heard as nicely as the bells of the Cathedral and the majority of Turku residents would not see anything wrong or bad with it.

This is an example of true diversity.
