Music executive Paulo Okoye has claimed that afrobeats singer Rema overprices himself.
In a conversation with media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, also known as Daddy Freeze, Paulo stated that Rema needs to perform more shows and build a larger fanbase to justify his current price tag.
He said: “Rema is on another level; he’s a Gen Z superstar and a major face of African music. The Western world views Rema similarly to American artists.
“But the issue with Rema right now is overpricing. I believe he has overpriced himself. He needs to do more shows to build a larger fanbase to earn his price tag.”
Paulo also noted that the earnings of Rema and his colleague, Asake, have decreased. He mentioned that while both singers previously earned up to $4 million and $5 million, their earnings have now dropped to $2 million (N3.2 billion) and $3 million (N4.8 billion) for 2023 and 2024.
Diaspora Glitz Magazine recalls that Rema made headlines after performing at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding on July 12 at the Jio World Centre in Bandra Kurla Centre, Mumbai. According to Hindustan Times, Rema was paid $3 million to perform his global hit song ‘Calm Down’ at the event.
